The Team:
solo student project
Role:
UX/UI designer
Duration:
3 months
Background
When I turned 26, I lost my health insurance and scrambled to find healthcare professionals in my network that suited my needs. I wanted to give up. I was overwhelmed and confused at the though of deciphering my insurance and the lists of people out there. I wanted to discover if others like me had the same problem and if so, how to help.
The Problem
How do we help financially conscious young professionals discover providers within their network so that they can afford it?.
The Solution
I created a responsive website that tailors results to user’s needs. Any healthcare professionals offered to them exist within their network and are tailored to their preferences. By eliminating the results financially inaccessible to users, users can feel confident in choosing the right healthcare professional within their means.
How did we get here?
1 . User Research
2. Idea Generation
3. Prototyping
4. Usability Testing
5. Iteration and Re-evaluation
Goals
I wanted to find out what role healthcare professionals played in people’s life. How did users find them? How did finding the right healthcare professional affect their daily life? Most importantly, what blockers were in the way of users getting the care that they need?

User Interview Questions
How well do you know your health insurance for?
How did you find a doctor for your needs?
How did you book your appointment?
Can you tell me about why you chose the doctor that you did?
If you chose to change your health professional, how would you find a new one?
Can you tell me the best experience you had in looking for a doctor?
Can you tell me the worst experience you had in looking for a doctor?
Key Findings
Here is what I found…
several users experienced a hard time finding a doctor for a specific need
most users have experienced frustration in errors during the transference of insurance information
users expressed fear at ending up with a larger medical bill than expected
several users expressed fear at finding new doctors when changing insurance
Personas
Newly independent in a brand new city, Joanna is struggling with the stressors of her life
primary motivation: desire for someone her understand her needs
primary pain point: she lacks trustworthy resources and community
Bruce just switched insurance providers and has never looked for a doctor on his own.
primary motivation: get his needs met without breaking the bank
primary pain point: fear of out-of pocket costs
With the many complexities of health care accessibility, a plethora of problems were found in my research. The most common and prominent key finding was that young people in their mid to late 20’s were lacking the confidence and finances to choose a healthcare professional with ease.
From this idea, I wanted to create a product that guided the user through this process so that they might learn how to best utilize their resources.
Thinking about how dating apps tailored your results to show only who best matched your interests, I aspired to create a product that would give users a similarly tailored experience.
Ideating a Solution
Taskflows
Userflows
I wanted to make sure that the users first interaction with the product created a sense of ease and mentorship. These flows were created to assure the user would only be matched with the professionals that were both within network and within their needs.
UI Design
ShareCare’s brand values are Transparency, Individuality, Accessibility and Inclusion.
This product is geared to helping a younger generation find affordable access to Healthcare.
Drawing on bright, warm images in nature and individualistic portraits of people, I chose these colors to exude a sense of warmth, zest and vibrancy.
Together with these UI design choices and mid-fidelity wireframes, we have…
High- fidelity Wireframes
Usability Testing
I want to determine…
the time it take for a user to create an account.
if the users can intuitively “create a search”
if the “pin search” function is intuitive and useful to the user
I found that…
Most users found the onboarding process easy and straightforward
Some Users questioned the feasibility of the “add time” feature
Most users did not know how to intuitively pin a search

Results
Based on the usability testing findings I…
Removed the “availability page” and added the urgency drop down to the previous page. This takes the user straight from search options to results in one click.
Added a drag down search menu that shows your search filters and allows you to edit. The pin feature was renamed bookmark search, and is only viewable when you view the entire search menu.
Removed pin search from the results page and placed it within the drag down menu, connects the bookmarking more directly to the search options.
